PRINT MOTIVATION is…
An interest in and enjoyment of books.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? 
Children who enjoy books are excited about learning to read. Children who are read to for 15 minutes a day are better prepared to learn to read.

BUILD THE SKILL:

Babies
• Read books from birth.
• Cuddle close and make reading a special time.
• Read books with baby faces and high contrast black and white books.
• Let baby play with books.
• Talk about the pictures.
• Sing or recite nursery rhymes.

Toddlers and Preschoolers
• Cuddle close and make reading a special time.
• Talk about the pictures.
• Sing or recite nursery rhymes.
• Read everywhere.
• Relate books to your child’s life.
• Follow your child’s interests. Let your child choose books.
• Let your child see you reading.
