Using the Library

How can I get a library card?
Adults: A library card can be issued free of charge to a California resident, age 18 or over, with acceptable photo identification and verification of current address.

Juveniles: A child must be at least four years old or able to write his or her own name. A parent or guardian must accompany the child, complete the library card application and show acceptable photo identification.

Juveniles 16 to 18 years old: Teenagers who have a driver's license may use it as identification and address verification. A parent or guardian must complete the library card application and sign it, but a parent or guardian need not be present.

Class Field Trips: After parent or guardian completes the library card application, children on class field trips will be issued a card with a one book limit until a parent or guardian comes in with photo identification and verification of address.

Your card must be presented whenever materials are checked out or renewed. First-time borrowers may check out a maximum of two books. Print and complete this Library Card Application. Bring it to any El Dorado County Library with your photo identification and verification of current address to get your library card.

I've lost my library card. What should I do?
The library must be notified of lost or stolen cards. The cardholder (or parent of minor) is responsible for any items or charges on the card until it is reported lost or stolen. Lost cards must be replaced for a $1.00 fee before further checkout.
